The AI and Cultural Production Workshop was held 4 June 2026 at the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre, hosted by the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. I was invited by Espen Aarseth and Sangjoon Lee, who were wonderful hosts throughout my visit.

Computational Models of Cinematic Time in the Age of AI Video

My talk drew on my ongoing research on AI video generation and its implications for moving image culture, examining how cinematic time can be reconceptualised “not as a timeline but as a topology.”

We were also given a tour of SCM’s studios, including a green-screen stage, where my Chul Heo took some photos and generated this one, compositing me as some kind of assistant film director against an AI-generated backdrop ― thanks for the picture!

I had very good conversations with participants at this event and enjoyed Hong Kong very much, many thanks again to Espen and Sangjoon for the invitation and the hospitality.
